Video Game Timeline

1972

This is the worlds first video game console which was created, the magnauox Oddysey sold 330,000 units in it whole lifetime.

1977
The Atari 2600 was released in 1997 and it became the most popular video game console of it's time. This console was the first to have the game Pong which was a simple tennis game where you can move the bar up and down to bat the ball back and to, to try and score in your opponents goal.

1977
In 1997 the Nintendo releases Colour TU Game 6. This console was the first to have the game Pong which was a simple tennis game where you can move the bar up and down to bat the ball back and to, to try and score in your opponents goal.

1980
Mattel released the intelvision video game console and 125 games were released for this specific type of console in 1980. 

1983
The company Saga released the SG - 1000 into the japanese market but this console didn't particulary sell many of its kind as it wasn't a huge success.

1983
Nintendo released the family computer game console in Japan and was then released in the United States as the Nintendo entertainment system selling 62 million. 

1986
Saga then releases the saga master system which was a huge competitor towards the Nintendo Entertainment System as many popular games were played on this type of system such as; Megaman, Zelda and Super Mario.

1989
This type of system had the famous game Tetris and was an instant success selling 118 million world wide. This console had also released the games; Power Glove, Turbo Graph 16 and Prince of Persia.

1994
In 1994 Sony released the gaming system, the PlayStation console which was a massive success selling 125 million world wide. The popular games which were also released for this type of console are; Saga Saturn, Neo Geo CD, Saga 32H and Mario Kart. 

1998
This second type of console for Nintendo was released in colour for Gameboy Advance and games such as Pokemon, Mario Kart and Rayman were a big influence for this type of gaming system and the fact that it was in colour made it even better. 

2000
In 2000 Sony then release the PS2 which was the biggest selling console up to date selling 138 million systems. Games such as; Perfect Dark, Chrono Cross and Skies of Arcadia. 

2004
Sony then releases the first hand held device which uses an optical Disc, the PlayStation Portable.

2005
Microsoft releases the Xbox 360 after they had released the Xbox and this was a massive seller. Other releases were Grand Tarismo and Guitar Hero which has a gaming guitar instead of a controller. 
 
2006
After the Xbox 360 was released, the PlayStation was a huge competitor as it was a very similar system with some advantages and disadvantages. An advantage of PlayStation 3 is that the online is free rather than having to pay monthly/yearly for Xbox. A disadvantage of PlayStation is that many people enjoy talking to their friends and they cant if they are playing different games, Xbox 360 has this opportunity to talk to friends even when playing different games.

2009
Sony releases the Nintendo DSi and then sony releases the PSP go.
